They achieved real success when they were teamed together in films. It didn’t take long for people to realize that they looked silly together. Stan was a skinny, soft, and bewildered man. Oliver was big, disciplined and proud. They had varied appearances and mannerisms, which brought laughter to the crowds. Stan would make trouble whenever he wanted, Oliver would try to work everything out but couldn’t. They started to make magic with this simple style. During the silent film era, Laurel and Hardy were extremely popular, and continued their success once talking pictures began. This was a significant accomplishment, as many silent film actors had unsuccessful careers when sound was introduced in movies.
