AITA for saying “we’re making a baby” instead of letting my wife take the credit?

Pregnancy is one of those experiences that people say brings you closer as a couple — the excitement, the anticipation, the shared joy of creating a new life. My wife and I are expecting our first child, and every appointment has felt like a milestone. But during a recent ultrasound, a simple comment she made — and my attempt to “correct” it — turned a beautiful moment into an emotional rift. Now she’s hurt, I feel misunderstood, and I’m wondering if I completely mishandled the situation.

The Aftermath

Let’s find out what other Redditors think about this story.

I never wanted to diminish what my wife is going through. I know she’s the one carrying our daughter, enduring the physical discomfort, and shouldering the risks. But I also believe that parenthood begins long before birth, and I want my role in this journey to be acknowledged too. Maybe I picked the wrong moment, maybe my words landed harder than I intended — but I truly thought I was reminding her we’re in this together. Now I’m stuck asking: was I being fair, or was I just being selfish in the middle of her moment?

What do you think?
