AITA for Defending My Mother After My Wife’s “Prank” Sent Her to the ER?

I honestly can’t believe I’m even having to write this, but the tension in my family after our wedding has been so bad that I need some outside perspective. My wife and I just got married, and what should have been the happiest day of our lives turned into a nightmare for my family, especially my mom. She’s been dealing with serious health issues, and the last thing she needed was unnecessary stress or exposure to the cold. But thanks to a so-called “fun moment” during the wedding prep, my mom ended up humiliated, shivering, and eventually in the hospital. Now my wife refuses to apologize, and my parents are furious.

Let’s find out how other Redditors weigh in on this story.

I love my wife, but I can’t ignore how wrong this was. My mom didn’t deserve to be treated like that, especially when she was already unwell. I feel caught between my new wife and my family, and the fallout has been brutal. My wife insists it was “just a joke” and I’m overreacting, while my parents now want nothing to do with her. I don’t want our marriage to start in a war zone, but I also can’t shake the feeling that she crossed a major line.
