AITA for telling my husband it’s too late to save our marriage?

Marriage is supposed to be about partnership, love, and support — but what happens when one person feels completely alone in holding everything together? When I married my husband, I thought I was stepping into a family where, together, we could heal and build something new. Instead, I found myself isolated, dismissed, and constantly undermined. The tension with his children, the hostility from his late wife’s family, and his refusal to step up pushed me to my breaking point. Now, after years of trying, I’ve finally said enough is enough — but he’s acting like my decision to leave is the betrayal, not everything that led up to it.

Reddit always has opinions—let’s see their judgment.

At some point, love alone isn’t enough to hold a marriage together. I gave him chance after chance, begged for counseling, and tried to build a bridge with his kids, only to be met with indifference and rejection. Now that I’ve finally left, he wants to promise change — but it feels like nothing more than too little, too late. I know this decision will make waves, but I also know I can’t sacrifice my happiness and my son’s well-being just to keep a broken marriage afloat. So I’m left asking: am I really the villain here for walking away when I’ve already given everything I could?
