Looking back, I can admit my daughter ate far more than expected, and yes, it created a strain on my SIL’s already limited resources. But as the adult in the room, I don’t think humiliating a child was the right way to handle the situation. My mom believes I should have been more mindful of my daughter’s appetite and even offered to buy groceries for my SIL. I, however, feel strongly that no matter the circumstances, my child’s dignity should come first. So, was I justified in cutting my SIL off from babysitting, or did I let my emotions override compassion for her struggles?
