AITA for refusing to bend my rental terms even when someone offered higher rent?

I’ve always believed that when you open your home to someone—whether they’re a tenant, roommate, or guest—you have every right to set the rules that make you feel comfortable. My house, my sanctuary, my boundaries. But recently, what I thought was a pretty straightforward house rule turned into a heated debate, accusations of me being “controlling,” and a possible friendship strain. Now I’m left wondering if I’m being too rigid… or if people just don’t respect boundaries anymore.

The Fallout

Let’s find out how what other Redditors think about this drama.

I’m not against relationships, fun, or people living their lives—but I refuse to compromise on the one rule that keeps my home peaceful. Maybe it’s old-fashioned, maybe it’s strict, but it’s what works for me. The way I see it, if my boundaries make me a bad guy in someone else’s story, so be it. But now I’m stuck asking myself… am I really the unreasonable one here, or just someone protecting their own space?

What do you think?
