AITA not helping my assigned roommate with his child? And responding with a mean comment

Sometimes you move into a shared space expecting a few inconveniences—maybe noise, maybe clashing schedules—but never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d end up sharing my apartment with a roommate and his child. From exploding microwaves to aggressive door-knocking and even transph*bic insults, the situation spiraled way beyond just “roommate drama.” Now I’m questioning if I went too far when I finally snapped back.

What does Reddit have to say about all this? Let’s find out.

I didn’t sign up to be anyone’s babysitter, let alone a replacement parent for my roommate’s child. I can tolerate messes, I can tolerate noise, but I refuse to tolerate being guilt-tripped—or worse, insulted—for setting boundaries in my own home. Still, part of me wonders if my final comment crossed a line, even though it was in response to something hateful. So here I am, asking the internet: was I the a**hole for refusing to help and clapping back, or was I just standing my ground?

What do you think?
