Parenting a teenager is already a rollercoaster, but nothing prepared me for the text I got from my 14-year-old daughter yesterday. It turned what should have been a normal day into a full-blown showdown with her high school counselor. I know I might’ve overreacted, but when it comes to my kid, my protective instincts take over. Now I’m left wondering if I crossed the line by standing up for her, or if I was right to lose my cool.

Wondering what Reddit thinks? Let’s take a look.

Looking back, I can admit my anger got the better of me. I let frustration boil over, and instead of handling it calmly, I escalated the situation in front of the very people who hold authority over my daughter at school. While I did apologize to the principal and counselor afterward, I can’t shake the feeling that I may have made things harder for my daughter with that particular counselor. So, Reddit—was I an overprotective parent who went too far, or just a dad defending his daughter from unfair treatment?
