AITA for making my SIL pay above average rent for one bedroom?

Family is supposed to be the first place you turn to in times of crisis, but what happens when the very people you rely on take advantage of your vulnerability? Two years ago, my life was turned upside down when lightning struck my home, burning it to the ground and forcing my family of five to seek shelter with my sister-in-law. Instead of compassion, we were met with greed and exploitation. Now, years later, the tables have turned—she’s the one in need, and I had to decide whether to show mercy or give her a taste of her own medicine.

Wondering what Redditors think? Let’s take a look.

I stood my ground and refused to let history repeat itself. My SIL may call me petty, and the rest of the family may think I’m being childish, but I know what my family endured because of her “hospitality.” Sometimes, standing up for yourself means setting boundaries, even if others don’t like it. Whether that makes me the villain in their eyes or not, I finally feel like I reclaimed some of the power she once took from me.

What do you think?
