At the end of the day, I don’t regret being there for my children, and I’m proud of the father I am. But I refuse to apologize for leaving a marriage that no longer existed as a partnership. My ex may resent me now that the kids are growing up and pulling away, but she built the life she insisted on. I offered her countless chances to be my partner again, and she never took them. Maybe my words were harsh, but sometimes the truth isn’t gentle—it’s just what needs to be said.
